Digital Champions tell us about their experiences on the Childnet Digital Leaders Programme
Published: 5th December 2025
As the Childnet Digital Leaders Programme comes to an end on 31st December 2025, we wanted to ask our Digital Champions about their experiences of the programme. Read on to find out what they had to say and what lessons they will take away.
Jeremy joined the Digital Champions in 2023 and enjoys producing sketches, programming, and playing the piano.
Q: What has been your favourite part of being a Digital Leader?
Jeremy’s answer: My favourite part of being a Digital Leader was being able to help people and help ourselves to gain more knowledge of online safety.
Dominik joined the Digital Champions in 2021 and enjoys gaming and travelling.
Q: What is your favourite thing you have done as a Digital Champion?
Dominik’s answer: My favourite thing that I have done as a Digital Champion is that I have helped Digital Champions in spreading information to parents and carers, and hosting the Safer Internet Day event back in 2023.
Eimear joined the Digital Champions in 2023 and enjoys crocheting, playing Gaelic football, and volunteering for her local youth club.
Q: What is the most important thing you learnt as a Digital Leader?
Eimear’s answer: The most important thing I learnt is that your voice can make a change or help with making a change. Adults want to talk to us because we are the next generation and we know the ins and outs of social media and technology.

Q: How are you going to use what you’ve learnt as a Digital Champion in future?
Jayden’s answer: I am going to ensure that I’m always aware of the latest online safety news and scams, and then keep an eye out for those who may be at risk of scams to keep them safe. I’ve also got more public speaking experience which I will be able to use in a variety of forward-facing roles in the future!

Q: What piece of advice would you like to give Digital Leaders for the future?
Gabrielle’s answer: To take every opportunity that comes your way and never take them for granted! Anything, from giving an assembly to your year group, to something like being a Digital Champion, as it can all be beneficial and a new and fun experience for you!
Our Digital Champions past and present have been a vitally important part of the Childnet Digital Leaders Programme, and we are very proud of them for their insight and hard work which has greatly enhanced the programme.
We are also hugely grateful to all the staff who have helped run the programme in their settings, but most of all we want to say thank you to all the young people who have been involved. Since launching 10 years ago, the Childnet Digital Leaders Programme has seen over 14,500 young people from more than 1,100 schools take part, with over 6,800 qualifying as Digital Leaders and going on to disseminate their knowledge amongst their peers.
